Construction is a series of images of different structures made of Kapla, the wooden block construction toy consisting of identically sized and shaped piece of pine. Sarkissian constructed from his imagination the houses from his grandfather’s village, located in present day eastern Turkey, from where he was forced to migrate to Syria during the Armenian genocide in 1915. Stories and images were the only tools people took with them to keep the narrative alive for future generations, and Sarkissian grew up with stories about this village, even though he has never been there, and has never even met his grandfather.
